Tip #1: Pick an activity where dress code leans more “elastic casual” than “black tie”. Sure, dressing up and feeling good about yourself is great, but you know what’s better than great? Amazing. And do you know what’s amazing? Going on a date in your sweat pants.
Tip #2: Don’t just fall asleep. Half the time my husband and I are so exhausted “date night” ends up with us either a) falling asleep, b) bingeing on a Netflix show and falling asleep or c) ordering take out and falling asleep (I’m sensing a pattern…). As tempting as it is to have an 8:00pm bedtime on date night, try to plan a specific activity to get the most out of your limited alone time together.
Tip #3: Make it fun. Just because you are lazy doesn’t mean date night can’t be fun. Spice it up, do something a little different that you wouldn’t normally do. Parenting can turn your life into such a predictable routine, take advantage of date night to make sure that doesn’t happen to your relationship.
Tip #4: Remember that magical time in your relationship where you could sleep in and you didn’t have conversations about poop? Try to get back to that place, even if it’s just for 30 min. Ban all talk family, work and children related and commit to focusing on just the two of you.
Tip #5: Laugh. Life is too serious, do something that makes you laugh so hard you almost pee your pants.
With Father’s Day coming up it was important for me to plan a date night that would really make my husband feel appreciated. I am no Martha Stewart, I know I can’t plan a festive celebration. I am no Julia Child, I can’t plan a delicious feast. I am certainly no Playboy Bunny, a sexy lingerie night isn’t in the cards either. I am a busy/exhausted/stressed/lazy mom just searching for something that would let my husband know that despite my obligatory nagging, I appreciate him. That’s where Melt comes in.
Although I was skeptical at first, I quickly learned that Melt: Massage for Couples hit all of my self proclaimed awesome date night tips. So basically Melt is an online massage course taught by Denis (a professional massage therapist with tons of experience and an awesome accent) and his wife Emma. Aside from digging the real life couple aspect, I immediately fell in love with the whole concept of taking time to connect to your partner. So often my husband and I are so busy and frazzled our longest interaction is an end of the night rock-paper-scissors game to determine who gets to put the kids to bed. So, the time to connect with my husband is what really hooked me and convinced me to give Melt a closer look. I swear, the fact that my husband would be taught to give a killer foot rub and neck massage was just an added bonus.
Since I already have spent hours researching/obsessing, I’ll break down the reasons I’m jumping on the Melt bandwagon:
-The videos are super short, like a few minutes short. For a couple that has A.D.D. and is a little intimidated by the whole massage thing, this is perfect.
-It’s not cheesy or corny or even a little bit porny like you might expect.
-Denis really knows what he’s doing and is able to teach his technique in a totally relatable, easy to learn way. Plus, he breaks everything down so you really understand how to successfully execute each technique.
-You can access the videos anywhere. Laptop, phone, smart tv, anywhere.
-Lifetime access to the videos. So if you forget something, no biggie. You can brush up on your skills anytime.
-60 day money back guarantee. Massage not really your thing, no worries. You can try it out with no risk at all.
-Melt has created adorable printable clues you can leave around for your husband to find to build up the suspense for his father’s day surprise that will really make him melt (pun totally intended).
If you are like me and have been freaking out over what to get your hubs for Father’s Day, date night or just as an “I love you” gift. Look no further(you’re welcome).
