12 Mom Of The Year

Wow, there have been quite a few times that I have been embarrassed to be an Arizona resident. Living in Scottsdale, the home of fake tans, fake boobs and fake people has made me hang my head a time or two.  I am pretty ashamed to be living in a state that continues to re-elect “Sheriff Joe”, the man who is infamous for creating “tent city”.  When the temperature inside one of the tents in “tent city” reached 145 (yes, you read that right) degrees, so hot that it was actually melting inmates’ shoes, Sheriff Joe merely responded by saying "What am I going to do, take them out of jail because it's too hot?" (BTW I’m not pro-criminal or anything, tent city is minimum security/minor offense). Needless to say I was also appalled when Arizona decided to pass a law giving government officials the right to stop any hispanic individual and demand proof of residency.  Just when AZ gets a little break from the rest of the country thinking it’s full of right wing, redneck idiots, a good ole’ “Grand Canyon State” resident pours more fuel on the “Arizona sucks” fire.

This week an AZ mom got arrested for....drum roll please.....giving her two year old beer! You can read the whole pathetic story here or you can just read on and get the Crazy Mama abridged version. So this trashy mom goes to Peter Piper Pizza with her 2, 4, and 8 year old sons and husband.  The 2 year old is hanging out at the table with the mom and he starts reaching for a pitcher of beer that was on the table. The future Mom Of The Year decides that in order to stop the kid from reaching toward the pitcher of beer she should give him his own sippy cup FULL of beer (where were the husband and brothers at the time? In the parking lot smoking weed?!).  The mom did the only logical thing next...left the two year old alone at the table where the toddler proceeded to fall off of his seat, and as an onlooker reported, “was acting drunk”.  WTF?!?  After all of that, the mom was only charged with one count of child abuse.  I don’t exactly know what one count of child abuse means, but it sure as hell does not seem like enough punishment to me!

Believe me, I have more than my fair share of “Mama Oopsies” and I am the first to admit that the maternal instinct did not just come naturally to me when Ella was born. But giving your toddler beer?! Not to mention this chick is 36 years old (not exactly someone who is going to show up on Teen Mom next season) and this is her third kid!  God knows what those other two kids have had to deal with! I don’t know about you, but in my opinion this lady needs to go to “Don’t Be a Dumb Mom 101”....thoughts?

Thanks for stopping by my blog! I appreciate it. And oh my goodness! Who in the world thinks that giving a 2yr old beer is a good idea?!?!?!

Preposterous! Pickled pre schooler previously propped, pounces off perch at Peter pipers pizza. Pathetic pin headed parents prove plenty puerile.

Sadly, I am not the least bit shocked by this story, but it does fill me with anger and disgust. There are so many kids out there being abused and neglected by their parents, it seems to have become an epidemic in the last few years.

By the way, I love your blog and I am happily following along.

It's mind boggling the thought process that goes on every now and again, or I guess the lack of thinking.

Whenever I feel like an inadequate parent, there's always someone like this who manages to give me perspective. Wow. As for AZ, my Cuban-American boyfriend, a decorated Navy officer and war veteran, was driving across the state to get to his new billet in San Diego, and he got stopped 3 times. He said he was tempted to speak in a stereotypical Latino accent and offer to do landscaping or car repairs for the officers, but he didn't want to end up in Ciudad Juarez, so he pulled out his military ID instead.

On another note, thanks for following my blog (www.middletini.com)! Totally following you back - love your sense of humor!

It seems a little beer goes a long way in AZ. I'm from the Puritan state of PA, so the fact that your state trust you to have beer at Peter Piper Pizza amazes me. I guess PA LCB knows that there's people to whom they must protect from their own stupidity! Yikes
